VIKTOR SUVOROV was born in 1971 in Krivoy Rog, Ukraine. In 2002-2005 was a staff photographer for Business newspaper in Kiev. Was widely published in Ukranian and Russian national media. Contributed to AP, Reuters, UNIAN, and Europress agencies. Worked with the UN, HIV/AIDS International Alliance. Prize winner of Ukraine in Focus (2002), Nikon Photo Contest International (2002-2003) and Press Photo Russia (2004). Viktor died on May 10, 2006 as a result of a severe car accident. Viktor was a member of Moscow based agency Photographer.ru
The situation with HIV/AIDS in Ukraine is one of the worst in Eastern Europe and Central Asia. 1,5% of the grown-up population is HIV-positive. Unlike most of the Ukranians hit with the illness that have found themselves completely devastated people featured in this story have found strength to support themselves and their children, find means for medical assistance and change public opinion on the HIV/AIDS problem.
