NORILSK TOWN

The town of Norilsk is currently the biggest threat to Siberia. It is located 300 km behind the Arctic Circle on the Taymir peninsula. Currently the town is controlled both politically and economically by the biggest exporter of nickel and palladium - a company called Norilsk Nickel. At this time Norilsk is completely closed to the world. To enter Norilsk, special permission is needed. The natural environment surrounding the town is in one of worst ecological situations in Russia. Norilsk's old factories send acid pollution into the atmosphere and seriously affect the health of local people.
